Welcome

A casino hotel built around the lake, not away from it

Horizon Quay sits on Lake Esplanade, where the water meets the town and the Remarkables fill the far window. The building was designed around that outlook: schist and glass, long horizontal lines, and rooms that face the lake rather than the street.

Since opening in 2013 we have grown into a full resort — 114 rooms and suites, the Harbourmaster restaurant, the Signal Room bar, Tarn Spa & Wellness, four event spaces and the Horizon Room, our on-site gaming lounge. Guests arrive for a weekend on the water and stay for the whole of it.

The casino resort experience here is quiet rather than loud. The Horizon Room is a single well-proportioned floor with table games, slot machines and a small high-limit salon, open to guests and visitors aged 20 and over. It is one part of the hotel, alongside the spa, the restaurant and the terrace — never the whole of it.

Arrival & concierge

Reception is staffed around the clock. Valet parking, luggage storage, ski and bike storage, laundry and same-day pressing are all arranged at the desk, and airport transfers from Queenstown Airport take about twelve minutes.

Our concierge team books the things that are hard to book: a table at the vineyards in Gibbston, an early gondola slot, a Milford Sound day trip, a jet boat on the Shotover. Tell us what you would like to do and we will build the day around your reservation.

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and grounds
  • Valet and secure underground parking, 42 spaces
  • Ski, board and bicycle storage with a drying room
  • Airport transfers and private drivers on request

Tarn Spa & Wellness

Named for the small alpine lakes above the Remarkables, Tarn Spa occupies the lower floor with four treatment rooms, a couples' suite, sauna, steam room and a quiet relaxation lounge facing the water garden.

The treatment list is short by design: deep-tissue and hot-stone massage, an alpine mineral wrap, facials using New Zealand marine and manuka ranges, and a two-hour Southern Lakes ritual. The pool, sauna and gym are complimentary for all in-house guests.

  • Spa open daily 9.00am – 8.00pm, bookings recommended
  • Pool, sauna and steam room 6.30am – 10.00pm
  • Gym with lake outlook, open 24 hours to room keys
  • Couples' treatment suite with private relaxation area

Meetings, weddings & events

Four spaces, all on the ground floor with natural light. The Esplanade Room seats 180 for a banquet or 220 theatre-style; the Cecil and Walter rooms suit boards and breakouts of 8 to 40; the Bob's Cove Pavilion opens onto the lawn for ceremonies and summer receptions.

One coordinator manages the whole event — floor plan, catering, AV, accommodation blocks and, where a client asks for it, a private drinks reception. Menus are built with the Harbourmaster kitchen rather than pulled from a folder.

  • Esplanade Room — 180 banquet / 220 theatre / 96 cabaret
  • Cecil Room and Walter Room — 8 to 40 guests, daylight, blackout blinds
  • Bob's Cove Pavilion — 120 standing, lawn and lake frontage
  • Dedicated coordinator, in-house AV, accommodation rates for groups

Everything the Southern Lakes are known for, within reach

We are 900 metres from the Queenstown town centre along the lakefront path, twelve minutes from the airport and forty from Coronet Peak. Central Otago's vineyards start twenty minutes east at Gibbston.

The concierge desk books gondola tickets, jet boat runs on the Shotover, scenic cruises aboard the TSS Earnslaw, guided walks on Ben Lomond, wine tours through Gibbston Valley and full-day coach or flight transfers to Milford Sound. In winter, we hold ski passes and arrange first-lift transport to Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.
